Photography started for me as a tool, as part of the process of making works of material. As years go by a common theme became more visible in all these photograps: ‘The artificial in the natural, the natural in the artificial’. Humans interfere, nature takes partly back. Nature masters the interference. A new, combined environment begins to take shape...

fir trees | Forestry of Austerlitz, 2011

A sunny day in the former production forest of Douglas fir trees in the Forestry of Austerlitz, the Netherlands. Since the late nineties the Dutch Forestry Commission chooses to 'water down' its monoculture, which means that smaller trees such as birch and rowan are not removed any more.
